Ein Vergaser ist eine Vorrichtung, die dazu dient, einen Motor mit Fremdzündung mit einem Gemisch aus Kraftstoff und Luft zu versorgen. Zu den typischen Bestandteilen von Vergasern gehören eine Speicherkammer für flüssigen Kraftstoff, ein Choke (Starterklappe), eine Leerlaufdüse (oder Langsamlaufdüse), eine Hauptdüse, ein venturiförmiger Luftstrombegrenzer und eine Beschleunigerpumpe. Im Allgemeinen dient ein Autovergaser dazu, die Menge des Kraftstoff-Luft-Gemischs zu regulieren, das in den Motorzylinder gelangt.
